This research paper examines the impact of SAP S/4HANA driven accounting systems on financial and management accounting processes of contemporary enterprises. Through a case study of Fujitsu Finland OY and its client ecosystem, the study explores how SAP FICO (financial accounting and controlling) as part of the S/4HANA architecture transforms accounting activities, supports agile decision-making and enhances intelligent real-time financial analysis. The data was collected using a structured questionnaire that was administered to an SAP consultant. The responses obtained from the questionnaire significantly helped in identifying the adoption of business modules, the changing nature of accounting practices all over the world system and the changes to the practice of accountants. The S/4HANA's in-memory computing and built-in analytics significantly accelerate the period-end closing, allow for more flexible reporting and enable proactive variance analysis. Nonetheless, issues such as data visualisation limitations, information overload, etc. remain, indicating the need for further enhancements of Fiori-based interfaces and a user-centric design for SAP environments. The researchers concluded that S/4HANA is not just the next generation of ERP but a re-architecting or foundational shift towards an intelligent, integrated accounting information system capable of sustaining dynamic business planning and compliance in digital-first economies.
